Liposuction

Question from Elliot Connolly, Exeter:

Does Liposuction cause dimpling of the skin?

I am considering getting liposuction to get rid of the excess fat on my thighs but I am concerned about skin dimpling.

Answer from Samantha Roberts, London:

Although dimpling is considered to be one of the side effects of liposuction it is rare to suffer from this if the surgeon carrying out the procedure is highly skilled. Cannulas are used in the liposuction procedure and the larger the diameter of the cannula, the more likely the body is to suffer from dimpling. That is why many surgeons use microcannulas which minimise the risk. As long as you go to a reputable surgeon with many years of experience you should not experience any dimpling of your skin. You should check out the methods which the surgeon is using and ask about dimpling and how he plans to reduce any risk.
